I always seem to fly through this beautiful country on the way to Australia or Asia yet I never make the effort to leave the airport. But this time I did and I'm so glad I did.

Singapore is notoriously clean and friendly but I had no idea just how clean it was. I've never seen a shop owner pressure wash the pavement outside his store before, they take clean to new level! It's slightly strange that everybody speaks English as the main language too. I kept expecting it to be like Thailand or the rest of Indochina.

I started my day extremely jet-lagged but ready to explore nonetheless. I joined my tour very early in the morning, a trip that showed the modern and traditional sides of Singapore. The first stop was an old Chinese temple.

This was a beautiful place and was still used by the locals so respect had to be paid. The amazing thing was that this tiny little temple was nestled between enormous sky scrapers, too stubborn to make way for the futuristic look of Singapore.

I then headed to the Singapore Flyer, the worlds largest observation wheel, bigger than the London Eye. At the top you can see both Malaysia and Indonesia! It's like going to Alton Towers, there's even a tour on the history of the city as you go around. It offers an uninterrupted arial view of the city which isn't for those with a fear of heights. The Flyer is situated in the middle of the newly established Formula 1 circuit by the pit lane. It's the first night time Grand Prix and I've been so anxious to see it since it started a few years back.

After this I headed to the famous Merlion Fountain to rest my feet and soak up the atmosphere. I was still getting used to the humidity after leaving snowy London. I only had the one day here but would love to see it again, I'm sure I'll end up here when I inevitably go back to Australia!
