After leaving Namibia we entered South Africa to see the Orange River, the vineyards, the Northern Cape, Table Mountain and Cape Town.

We started off by by camping along the Orange River, a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere where you could watch the sun set and just lie on the grass next to the mirror-like water.

We then entered Namaqualand in the northern cape where millions of colourful wild flowers grow. It was here where we stayed at one of the vineyards and we had our last night in tents. We marked the occasion with a tent race.

After here it was off to Cape Town. I was expecting something similar to the previous year where after a month of travelling across Australia I arrived in Sydney, however I was disappointed. Cape Town seemed violent and dirty and we found ourselves staying in the cinema and shopping mall by the waterfront most the time.

Table Mountain however was glorious. We climbed it early one morning and wondered around the top where the view and the wind were amazing. You could see along the length of the country to the southern most point and the whole of Cape Town in a single view. It ruined it a bit for me seeing a gondola and restaurant at the top however I was hungry once up there so I thought 'why not?'

We went to one of the townships while in Cape Town which was a real eye opener. I had no idea such a wealthy country had such poverty. One woman was kind enough to invite us into her home, I was shocked at what I saw. The house was held together from bits of scrap she could find. I felt angry at the government for allowing this. When just on the other side of the motorway from her home was the new World Cup stadium and a golf course.

I think that there is still a massive divide between colour in South Africa, one that is unfair and unkind. The people of the townships were some of the warmest, friendliest people I've ever had the privilege to meet, whereas some of the other South Africans we met were lacking manners. The majority were very nice though.

One group of men from the township offered us in to try some of their home-made beer which they served us from an old paint pot. Not wanting to seem rude I had some and actually quite enjoyed it, better than some other beers you can pay a fortune for back home.

We enjoyed a great wine tasting trip around the cape on what had to be the rainiest day in South Africa's history. I think we were supposed to taste the wine then spit it out, but we didn't, and it ended up being quite a merry occasion.

Before long my time in Africa was up and it was time to fly back to Heathrow, England. Africa is certainly and adventure I will never forget and recommend it to everyone. If you want a holiday with a true sense of adventure and a chance to get photos people dream of, Africa is definitely the place to be!
